Why Become A Member?

Membership is open to anyone of any rank who served either actively flying in the Maritime environment or in support of that role. In other words, if you served on an Air Force or Navy base from which Maritime Air operated, you’re welcome to join MAVA. From the flight line to the tower to the supply section to base headquarters – all are welcome!

MAVA provides a venue for comradeship among veterans who share a common maritime background that cannot be found in other veterans’ organizations. Whether flying MAD traps in a Tracker, laying a sonobuoy attack barrier in an Aurora or hovering in a Sea King in the dip 50 feet above the waves, our members have common maritime background. They have been there on a turbulent, dark night when the windscreen wipers have trouble clearing the salt spray; those and other experiences are all shared by our members.

Just as importantly, the ground crews were a critical member of the maritime team whose dedication, imagination, and ingenuity played a crucial role in ensuring our maritime aircraft launched on schedule. And don’t forget the air traffic control members of the maritime team who de-conflicted oceanic routes and altitudes on covert transits to our maritime op areas.

MAVA provides a “nest” where these birds of a feather can flock together.

MAVA Membership Fees

The Maritime Air Veterans Association collects a nominal annual fee from its members to cover some of its administration costs. These funds help subsidize social and speaking events as well as the Association’s involvement in affairs relevant to the well-being of Maritime Air Veterans (i.e. participation in Remembrance Day ceremonies).

MAVA hosts three luncheons per year, usually in February, May and November. Each luncheon features a guest speaker (past speakers have included Commander of Air Command, Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs, and President and CEO of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority).

MAVA also organizes two golf tournaments, usually in July and September, plus a dinner & dance in September.
